Legal Statement on Proposed Amendments to the APIA

On November 27, 2001, a group of members of Parliament: Borislav Tsekov, Valentin Tserovski, Nikolai Buchkov, Rupen Krikoryan, Emil Koshlukov, Husein Chaush proposed draft amendments to the Access to Public Information Act.
The Amending Act was passed at first hearing by Parliament on May 08, 2003.

Two drafts for the Law on the Protection of Information, Classified as State or Official secret were introduced in Parliament in 2001:
1. Proposed by Dimitarm Abajiev, Ivo Tsanev and Ekaterina Mihailova (PG of UDF) on 26.07.2001
2. Approved by the Council of Ministers on 04.10.2001 and introduced in Parliament on 16.10.2001

Two drafts for the Personal Data Protection Act were introduced in 2001:
1. Introduced into Parliament by Nadejda Mihailova (PG of UDF) on 19.07.2001
2. Approved by the Council of Ministers and introduced in Parliament on 18.10.2001
 
The Leading comission was the Comission for National Securty and Social Order
 
AIP submitted a Legal Opinionon the draft acts.


The Personal Data Protection Act was adopted by Parliament on Dec. 21, 2001 and published in the State Gazette on Jan. 04, 2002
